 Asian Range Strategy (Gold XAUUSD)

What Is the Asian Range?

The Asian Range refers to:

The High and Low that the market forms during the Asian trading session.

In Gold, after the London session begins, price often tests or sweeps the Asian High or Asian Low.

Asian Session

Generally, during the Asian session:

  • The market is relatively slow.
  • A smaller trading range often forms.
  • Liquidity gradually builds up.

This range is known as the Asian Range.

Step 1 – Mark the Asian High and Low

Example

Asian High = 3385
Asian Low = 3372

Mark both levels on the chart using horizontal lines.

Step 2 – Wait for the London Open

After the London session begins, observe:

  • Does price move above the Asian High?
  • Or does price move below the Asian Low?

Scenario 1 – Asian High Sweep

Example

Asian High = 3385

London Open:

Price moves up to 3390.

Then price returns to 3375.

➡️ This could be a Buy-Side Liquidity Sweep.

If a bearish MSS and confirmation occur afterward, a Sell setup may form.

Scenario 2 – Asian Low Sweep

Example

Asian Low = 3372

London Open:

Price moves down to 3368.

Then price returns to 3385.

➡️ This could be a Sell-Side Liquidity Sweep.

If a bullish MSS and confirmation occur afterward, a Buy setup may form.

Gold Example

Daily Bias = Buy

Asian Range:

  • High = 3385
  • Low = 3372

London Open:

Price first moves down to 3369, sweeping the Asian Low.

Then a Bullish CHoCH forms.

Price retraces into a Bullish Order Block.

➡️ Buy Entry

Stop Loss: Below 3367

Take Profit: Asian High or liquidity above the Asian High.

Fake Breakout vs. Real Breakout

Fake Breakout

  • The Asian High or Low is broken.
  • Price quickly returns inside the range.
  • A reversal may follow.
  • Confirmation should be obtained before entering.

Real Breakout

  • Price breaks the level with a strong candle.
  • Price holds in the breakout direction.
  • The higher-timeframe bias also supports the breakout direction.
  • Follow-through confirms the breakout more convincingly.

Common Mistakes

❌ Entering a trade immediately when London opens.

❌ Buying simply because the Asian High has been broken.

❌ Not waiting for confirmation such as MSS/CHoCH.

❌ Applying the strategy around major news without proper caution.

Pro Tips

✅ Mark the Asian High and Asian Low every day.

✅ Use the Asian Range strategy together with your Daily Bias.

✅ Be patient during the London session—the first move is not always the final move.

✅ Consider limiting risk to 1% or less per trade.

🎯 Homework

Open the Gold (XAUUSD) chart on TradingView and:

  1. Mark the Asian High.
  2. Mark the Asian Low.
  3. After the London Open, check:

    • Was the Asian High or Low swept?
    • Did an MSS or CHoCH form?
    • Where could a potential entry have occurred?
  4. Record the result and review whether the setup followed your higher-timeframe bias.
